An engagement survey is designed to give another company insight into your emissions and plans to reduce them. The aim is of the company is to use the data to find ways to collaborate with you and other companies in their value chain that have received the same survey.
How do I answer the survey?
You can create a network account to answer the survey, or you can answer as a guest. Creating an account means you retain access to your answers afterwards, and can re-use them in future surveys from this customer, or others using Normative to survey their value chain.
What will I be asked?
The survey and data that is shared with your customer is divided into a number of sections:
Company details
These details are used to identify your company, and are either shared from your network account if you create one, or are asked for as part of answering the survey as a guest.
- The name of your company
- The main industry of your company
- Location of company headquarters
- A VAT, website or other identifier
- Size bracket of company (number of employees)
Section 1: Measuring your carbon emissions
This section concerns whether you have measured your emissions for the period requested. If you have not measured your emissions you can still give your customer value by giving them this information.
If that is the case, the survey will not ask you to fill out the rest of Section 1, 2 and 3, and will send you straight to Section 4.
Questions in this section:
- Do you know your company’s emissions during this period?
Here you can choose whether you have measured your emissions yet.
If you choose either of the last 2 options, you will not need to answer the rest of the questions in this period, and can skip to Section 4.- Yes, for the exact period
- No, but we have them for a different period (Specify which period)
- No, but we plan to measure them in the near future (Specify within how long)
- No, and we have no plans to measure them at the moment
- On what level of your company were emissions measured during this period?
- For your company / By your group company
- What emission scopes were included in your measurement?
- Scope 1 and 2 only (Specify when you plan to measure scope 3 as well)
- Scope 3
Section 2: Your carbon emissions
If you have measured your emissions, this section requests more detail on those emissions. They will use these to refine their own footprint and understand how your emissions change over time.
Questions in this section:
- What were your scope 1 emissions this period?
- Your emissions in scope 1
- (Optional) Percentage of vehicles that use biofuel
- What were your scope 2 emissions this period?
- Your emissions in scope 2
- (Optional) Percentage of energy use that is renewable
- (Optional) Allocation method for measurement - Market based or location based
- (If you have measured scope 3) What were your scope 3 emissions this period?
- Your emissions in scope 3
- (Optional) Which scope 3 categories were part of the measurement?
- (Optional) What percentage of the scope 3 data used is supplier-specific?
- (Optional) What greenhouse gas protocol categories are included in your measurement?
- How did you measure your emissions?
- Normative carbon calculation software (Specify which)
- Other carbon calculation software (Optionally specify which)
- In house/we did it ourselves
- A consultant did it for us (Optionally specify which)
- Other
- I'm not sure
-
- Briefly describe how you arrived at this footprint. (Free text)
Section 3: Your emission intensity metrics
In this section we request your intensity metrics which make it easier for the company that sent you the survey to calculate the proportion of your emissions that is relevant to them. Currently, we gather your revenue intensity and your employee intensity.
NB: We can help you calculate these figures or you can enter them yourself. Any sensitive data you provide in these questions (revenue or intensity) won't be shared with the company that sent you the survey.
Questions in this
- Revenue intensity (Scope 1, 2 and optionally Scope 3)
- I.e. Emissions divided by your company's revenue
- Employee intensity (Scope 1, 2 and optionally Scope 3)
- I.e. Emissions divided by the number of people you employ
Section 4: Your reduction strategy & targets
This section concerns the ambitions your company has to reduce your emissions in all 3 scopes, and is relevant regardless of whether you have started measuring your emissions or not. The company that sent you the survey will use this data to gauge the potential reduction in their own footprint.
Questions in this section:
- Have you set any form of targets to reduce your emissions?
- Yes, we have set some targets (Specify whether at company or group level)
- We are in the process of setting or revising our targets (Specify whether at company or group level)
- No, but we plan to set targets in the near future (Specify how long)
- (If yes) What type of targets have you set?
- Science based targets
- Other science aligned targets
- Internal targets
- I'm not sure
- What year and emissions did you base your targets on?
- Base year/Emissions in base year (Scope 1, 2, optionally 3)
- What are the reduction targets you have set for your company?
- Specify any number of targets
- Each target made up of year, target scopes and target reduction percentage
